A clear invoice gets paid faster. Here's what to put on a plumbing invoice, a sample you can download, and a quicker way to make your own.
What to put on a plumbing invoice
- Your business name, phone, email and address, plus your GST/HST number if you're registered.
- The client's name and the job address.
- An invoice number and the invoice date, and a due date. 14 days is common for homeowners.
- The work, line by line: the service call fee, labour by the hour, then each part or fixture on its own line with the brand or model.
- Subtotal, any discount, HST or GST and PST and the total.
- Any deposit already paid, and the balance still owing.
- How to pay: your Interac e-Transfer email and the invoice number to put in the message, or a cheque payee.
- Short terms, such as the due date and what happens if it's late.
Tips that get plumbing invoices paid
- Write down what you found and what you fixed. If the problem comes back, you both have a record.
- Put after-hours or emergency rates on their own line so the client sees why the bill is higher.
- State your warranty on parts and labour, even if it's short.
- Reference the quote they accepted, so there are no surprises about the price.
- Make paying easy. One tap to copy your e-Transfer email beats a bank number on paper.
- Follow up on the due date and again a week later. A polite reminder is usually all it takes.
